Introducing Professor JS Bamrah CBE, as Patron.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor JS Bamrah CBE as the newest Patron of BIMA (British Indian Medical Association). Professor Bamrah brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of medicine, particularly in psychiatry and mental health services. His dedication to healthcare excellence and advocacy for diverse communities aligns closely with BIMA’s mission to promote professional development, education, and health equity.


Dr. JS Bamrah CBE is the immediate past national Chairman of BAPIO, a senior consultant psychiatrist in Manchester, and an Honorary Reader at the University of Manchester. Until recently, he was the Medical Director at Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust. He is a Director and Council member of the BMA and a trustee of two charitable organizations – LMCP charity for disadvantaged people from the South Asian community and the African and Caribbean Mental Health Services.


He is featured in Marquis’ Who’s Who, has a Lifetime Achievement award for services towards mental health in Manchester, a Professional Excellence Award from Asianlite, HSJ award for being one of 100 Black and Minority Ethnic pioneer health leaders in the UK, an Association Medal from the BMA, and other awards. In 2001, he was acknowledged by 10 Downing Street as one of 100 doctors for providing a ‘Distinguished service to the NHS’.


As BIMA’s Patron, Professor Bamrah will play a pivotal role in supporting our efforts to advance medical education, foster professional networks, and advocate for the well-being of healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds. We look forward to benefiting from his guidance and insights as we continue to serve our members and the broader healthcare community.
